New Drawing!

Finally just finished a drawing that I’ve been working on since December!

‘Four Rainbows Over Niagara Falls (What Does This Mean?)’

Four Rainbows Over Niagara Falls is the title of the Albert Bierstadt painting from which this image was taken: http://www.albertbierstadt.org/Four-Rainbows-Over-Niagara-Falls.html . What Does This Mean? is a quote from this youtube video in which Hungrybear9562 succumbs to existential euphoria at the sight of a full double rainbow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI .

Excited to start something new. Also details coming soon about a cool upcoming exhibition.

On another note, I spent this Sunday morning reading ‘Wabi-Sabi: For Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers’ by Leonard Koren.  Next time I have to put together an artist statement or talk about my work at length, I think I’m going to take a lot from this book.  However, I’m still trying to piece together my interest in japanesee zen philosophy with my optimism and confidence in futurist notions of technological progress.

And lastly, Hungryman Gallery just posted some nice installation shots of ‘A Coupling’ on their site: http://www.hungrymangallery.com/shows/a-coupling/ .  a couple good ones of our ‘Earth’ latch-hooked rug.

Earth

Hey, I just posted a new piece that I made in collaboration with Samantha Bittman.

We made this piece for the show, A Coupling, curated by Josh Reames at Hungryman Gallery.  Sam and I each spent a couple hours everyday working for about 5 weeks to complete it in time for the exhibition.  I actually found latch hooking to be a pretty addictive and rewarding process.  I think we were both very happy with how our earth turned out.

Stories About Nearly Invincible Man

Stories About Nearly Invincible Man.

This is a series of cartoons that I make with a couple coworkers.  The character is Nearly Invincible Man.  He’s superhero-ish, in that he is invincible.  That’s about it.  Otherwise, he’s just a guy trying to get by (forever).  Also, he’s a philosophy professor at a community college.

Trading Pit Hand Signals

I recently finished the fourth poster in a series documenting the hand signals used on the trading floors of the London, Chicago, NY and Singapore exchanges.  These were commissioned by a Chicago trader who maintains the most comprehensive database of trading hand signals on the web.   These posters are 2 color screenprints, 18 x 24″.  Chicago poster was printed in an edition of 500, the other 3 in editions of 250 each by local illustrator/designer/printer Dan Grzeca.    For more info:

Spiderman!

Just came across the picture online of Spiderman holding up a copy of the children’s book I illustrated a couple years ago.  Loving this.  If you want to see all the illustrations I did for this book, you can here: http://mikenudelmandesign.com/section/158005_N_is_for_Nature_An_Environmental.html .

Animated Gif #2

Animated gif test #2. These are updated versions of animations I had made in Ithaca, NY in 2007. You can see the original installation of them in this photo: http://www.mikenudelman.com/art/fleeting-traces-in-blank-spaces . Now I’m thinking of turning them into more of a web-based project…
